tascorA detainee custody officer plays a vital part in securing the UK Borders. Their role encompasses a wide range of duties at a wide range of locations including airports, ports and removal centres.

What is the role of a DCO?

Detainees can sometimes be distressed, abusive, aggressive and violent and physical restraint may be required at times. It is important for DCO’s to remain non-judgemental and to follow the correct procedures when handling detainees.

The role is exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974 and candidates applying for the role are required to specify ANY criminal convictions, spent or unspent, cautions or reprimands.  DCO’s also need to be in possession of a full manual driving licence.
